  • The European SF6 Regulation: Challenges & Applications for Manufacturers and Network Operators.
  • Electrical Grid Supervision: Innovations for a Digital & Sustainable Transition.

> Understanding the European SF6 Regulation

MatPost2023 addressed the introduction of the new European regulation on SF6 during a round table held in November 2023. In anticipation of MatPost2027, it appeared necessary to take stock in 2025 of “the major challenges of the European SF6 regulation for network operators and manufacturers.”

The implementation of the new European SF6 regulation for users and manufacturers is entering a concrete phase, with the first « deadline » dates requiring all stakeholders to commit to the defined objectives—without compromising the safety and proper functioning of network assets.

Achieving these objectives involves the approval of new products by operators, as well as the industrialization of the new ranges of equipment for market release and operational deployment.

> Webinar Goals – SF6 Regulation

The webinar aims to share the key challenges and implementation aspects of this regulation, which will apply from January 1, 2026, for Distribution equipment, and from 2028 for Transmission equipment.

  • How to develop new solutions facing real technical and technological challenges to replace SF6, a gas with many advantages in terms of physical properties (dielectric strength, breaking performance, regeneration capacity, compactness, filling pressure, etc.).
  • What designs and architectures are suitable for equipment using SF6 substitutes (air or other gases)?
  • What are the operational challenges, given that functional needs remain unchanged to ensure the absence of any component failure in the networks?
  • How to update technical and industrial reference frameworks to meet the new requirements?
  • How to adapt standards and technical specifications to reflect these new demands?

This webinar will be led by representatives from manufacturers (SE, GE Vernova, Ormazabal) and network operators (Enedis, RTE).

The presentations will be followed by a debate based on questions from the audience to the speakers.

> Context of Power Grid Supervision:

The second topic focuses on the supervision of transmission power grids, one of the major challenges to be addressed in implementing the energy and digital transitions, alongside the growing electrification of all sectors.

> Objective of the Webinar on Power Grid Supervision:

The webinar presents RTE’s forward-looking approach to the 24/7 monitoring of transmission grid equipment.

This MatPost2025 webinar will serve as a prelude to the upcoming MatPost2027 Conference, whose preferred topics will be based on the initial expectations gathered during this webinar.
